Warner Bros.' film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, will be available to stream through Max on December 15 after its theatrical release on July 21. The movie has earned over $1.4 billion globally, making it the top-grossing film of 2023 and Warner Bros.' highest-grossing film to date.

Additionally, Barbie will debut on Max with a special American Sign Language (ASL) version, featuring ASL performer Leila Hanaumi signing throughout the film. This other version of the movie can be found on Max as a standalone title, indicated by the sign-language symbol in its key art.

"Max is the premiere destination for storytelling, so being able to share the biggest movie of the year in ASL, the first language for many, will make this story resonate in a more meaningful way," said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content. "By offering sign language interpretation, we will build upon the film’s empowering message of inclusiveness and offer a unique viewing experience for the Deaf community to enjoy with family and friends."

Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken, exploring the transition from Barbieland to the real world. The cast includes Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and Issa Rae.

Since the movie's success, both director/co-writer Gerwig and star Robbie have said they don't foresee a Barbie sequel. Speaking with the AP, Robbie explained how "we put everything into this one" and it wasn't meant "to be a trilogy." She added: "It was like, great to put everything into this movie, so I can't imagine what would be next."

Max is currently available for $10/month with ads included, and $16/month for the standard ad-free plan.
