Call Of Duty: Black Ops Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Double XP And A Special Video
Here's something to make you feel old--the original Black Ops was announced on May 18, 2010.
May 18, 2010 is not only the day that Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption was released. It was also the day that Activision formally announced Call of Duty: Black Ops from developer Treyarch.
To celebrate the birthday, Activision is offering double XP, double weapon XP, and double merits in Black Ops 4. Additionally, players can get double Nebulium Plasma during the promo period, which ends on May 28. You can also check out a new video from Treyarch that celebrates the 10th anniversary of Black Ops, while the original announcement trailer is also embedded in this post.
"A point that shouldn't be overlooked is the fact that we wouldn’t be sitting here today if it weren't for 10 years of support from the best player community a developer could hope for, so: THANK YOU!" Treyarch said in a blog post.
The original Black Ops was released on November 9, 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, while versions of the game also came to the Nintendo Wii and DS systems. The franchise continued with sequels Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, and Black Ops 4, the latter of which was controversial for not featuring a campaign mode.
The new Call of Duty game coming in 2020 is rumored to be a Black Ops title, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Activision historically announces new Call of Duty games in May, but it remains to be seen if the COVID-19 global pandemic has led to changes in scheduling.
Additionally, Activision is bringing back deathmatch domination--which combines team deathmatch and domination--as a limited-time mode in the playlist update for May 19.
Black Ops 4 May 19 Playlist Updates:
- Multiplayer – 2XP Deathmatch Domination, Nuketown, Barebones Moshpit, Bolt-Action Barebones Moshpit, Mercenary Deathmatch Moshpit
- Blackout – Hot and Heavy (Hot Pursuit and Heavy Metal Heroes), Alcatraz Portals Quads, Quads, Duos, Solos
