The latest movie version of Spider-Man will remain a secret for a while longer. Spidey is set to make his debut in a Marvel studios film when Captain America: Civil War opens in May, but the directors are remaining close-lipped about when we'll get a first glimpse of the wall-crawling hero.

In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Joe Russo, who is directing with his brother Anthony, emphasised that keeping the fans in suspense was vital. "Part of making these movies is maintaining surprise so that everybody's excited, and that's one we're going to make fans surprised," he said.

However, Russo did go on to talk about the approach that he and his brother were taking to the character, who will be played by young British star Tom Holland. "We took a very personal approach to the character," he explained. "We had thought back to the things that excited us about him as a character when we were younger, and one of the most important components of that was that he's a high schooler burdened with incredible powers and responsibility. That really differentiates him from every other character in the Marvel universe as opposed to other superheroes.

"For us, it was extremely important that we cast somebody very close to the age of a high school student. The previous films had adults playing a high schooler. We wanted more of an authenticity to the casting."

The Russo brothers also discussed their next directing project, the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, and more specifically if the Guardians of the Galaxy might make an appearance. "People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie," Joe Russo said. "We're just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervour that we did the earthbound work we've been doing. We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism.

"We obviously can't bring a naturalism to it because it doesn't really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that's going to be our focus."

Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 5, 2016, while Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 are due to hit cinemas on May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019 respectively.
