CD Projekt Red has explained why Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming DLC Phantom Liberty costs $30, almost the cost of both Witcher 3 expansions.

Following the Xbox Games Showcase where a brand-new story trailer debuted, Cyberpunk 2077's quest director Pawel Sasko and quest designer Despoina Anetaki spoke to Kotaku about the highly anticipated DLC. One main topic of conversation was the price point, and why Phantom Liberty costs more than Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine--both of come together in a $25 expansion pass.

"The only comment I can offer is the thing that I know about," Sasko said. "As a director, we are involved in that we just recommend to our board what we think that amount of content is [and] what is the value for the player and the actual value in the game. And that’s the extent of it.

"So we just have a conversation internally as directors of like, ‘yeah, we think, you know that this is fair or that is, that is a price that would be fine,’ but we are not involved in the decisions themselves, right? The decisions [is] taken by our board."

Anetaki went on to explain that compared to Witcher 3's medieval world--which has more flat, wide open areas--Cyberpunk's city is denser due to its verticality. The developer added that the new content, like Street Stories, brings even more hours to the game than just Phantom Liberty's story.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is launching on September 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and will be the game's only expansion. Preorders are now officially live and include some special goodies.
