Developer Toys for Bob unveiled a brand-new Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time trailer during Gamescom's Opening Night Live stream.

Toys for Bob took the opportunity to announce Flashback Tapes, a new game mode that creates specialized puzzle rooms that are a throwback to classic Crash gameplay. You'll have to complete the entire level without dying, an homage to the death routes from the original trilogy. Getting through the challenge will give you access to unique levels. These levels are set before Crash 1, because they take place when Crash is still partnered with Dr. Neo Cortex.

Prior to this Gamescom showing, Toys for Bob spoke at length about some of Crash Bandicoot 4's new features. We sat down with producer Lou Studdert to discuss the new art style and level design, was told the game would have no microtransactions, and learned about the new N.Verted Mode (a collaboration with Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled developer Beenox).

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is slated to launch on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can check out our Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time pre-order guide to learn more about the bonuses you get for buying early.
