Pull yourself away from Apple Arcade for this deal.

Apple Arcade might be the hottest thing in mobile gaming right now, but we shouldn't forget about all the great games outside the service. Supergiant Games is serving up a nice reminder of that by making Bastion, the studio's 2011 action-RPG, free on the iOS store for a limited time. If you got a new iPhone or iPad for Christmas and are looking for some great mobile games, this is one deal you don't want to miss out on.

The original iOS version published by Warner Bros. was delisted a couple of months ago. An updated version published by Supergiant later popped up on the App Store, and the studio responsible for the whimsical action-RPG is graciously giving it away free of charge until the end of the year. That means there's less than two days left, so don't wait to claim Bastion while it's a freebie.

Now Playing: Bastion Video Review

After downloading, you need to unlock the full game. Bastion boots directly to the beginning of the game rather than a menu screen. After playing for about ten seconds, the settings wheel will appear in the upper right-hand corner. Click on the wrench/hammer icon, and you'll see a button that reads "Unlock $0.00." Bastion is now in your iOS game library forever!

In Bastion, you play as the Kid, a young adventurer on a fantastical journey narrated by an old man named Rucks. Throughout the story, you fight your way through enemy-infested levels comprised of floating environments that continuously appear as you walk. The end goal is to collect the cores that made the city of Caelondia tick before the world-altering event known as the Calamity. Earning an impressive 8.5/10 in GameSpot's Bastion review, the game became a runaway hit.

Supergiant Games went on to create three more compelling indies: Transistor, Pyre, and Hades, which is currently in early access.
