Preorders are now live for the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of Gran Turismo, the big screen adaptation not of the long-running PlayStation game but on a fascinating story linked to it. Directed by District 9's Neill Blomkamp, the film is loosely inspired by the true story of of Jann Mardenborough, the teenage Gran Turismo player who became a professional race car driver.

Extras haven't been announced yet for the Blu-ray release, which doesn't have a release date yet, but you can probably expect some behind-the-scenes content, commentary tracks, and trailers. The film stars Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough alongside David Harbour, Darren Barnet, Emelia Hartford, Geri Halliwell Horner, Djimon Hounsou, and Orlando Bloom as the villainous Danny Moore.

Critically, Gran Turismo hasn't fared too well. On GameSpot sister site Metacritic, the racing game film currently has a Metascore of 46 from 43 reviews. Audiences seem to like it, as its user Metascore stands at 7.7 at the time of writing. While several critics have labeled Gran Turismo as a slick advert for the PlayStation game that runs way too long, there is some consensus that Blomkamp's directing has produced several spectacular racing scenes alongside a heartfelt appreciation of the video game franchise.
