HBO Boss Not Worried That The Last Of Us Season 2 Isn't Coming Until 2025

"A two-year turnaround time is standard for big genre shows."

HBO boss Casey Bloys isn't worried about The Last of Us Season 2 releasing in 2025. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bloys expressed that a two-year turnaround time is "standard for big genre shows," and that the fan base will be there regardless of the wait.

"One thing I'm not worried about with The Last of Us is keeping the conversation going," he said. "That show has a huge fan base and ended with 30 million viewers an episode."

During the interview, Bloys was also asked about the future of HBO after the final seasons of both Succession and Barry. He quoted the upcoming seasons of White Lotus, Euphoria, and House of the Dragon as the main focus alongside alongside The Last of Us.

"In however many years' time when Craig [Mazin] decides he's told The Last of Us, the question then is what does HBO do after Last of Us?," Bloys laughed.

When asked about whether the Season 2 will mirror what happens to Joel in the second game, Bloys said he'll leave the teasing to director Craig Mazin. As of now, we know that Pedro Pascal's recent arm injury won't affect the production of the second season, set to begin in mid-February.

As for the rest of the cast, Kaitlyn Dever will be playing Abby, Isabela Merced will star as Dina, and Young Mazino has been confirmed for the role of Jesse.

Elsewhere, Nick Offerman--who portrayed Bill in the first season--told Deadline about a pitch for a prequel mini-series starring Bill and his partner Frank before they met. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, thinks the team will "top" the first season. As of now, HBO is yet to confirm the presence of the golf club in the upcoming season.
