Knives Out 3: Rian Johnson Has "What The Movie Is In My Head"

The director says now he just has to put pen to paper after figuring out the premise and setting.

Filmmaker Rian Johnson seems to have cracked open the next adventure for Benoit Blanc in Knives Out 3. Now, according to the Glass Onion director, he just has to actually put his thoughts down on paper.

Speaking with The Wrap, Johnson was asked about the third Knives Out film. "It's coming along," he said. "I obviously couldn't work during the strike, and now that it's over, I'm diving in full force, and so it's coming along. I've got the premise, I've got the setting, I've got what the movie is in my head. It's just a matter of writing the damn thing."

In January, Johnson stated Knives Out 3 was his focus going forward, though the film hadn't "snapped into focus yet." Obviously, that appears to have changed--even with a months-long Hollywood writers strike that just ended last month.

Glass Onion, the second Knives Out movie starring Daniel Craig, released last year and became a major success for Netflix. In 2021, the streaming company secured a reported $400 million deal with Johnson for Knives Out 2 and 3.

As for other Johnson projects, his new Star Wars trilogy might not be dead, but it's certainly not crawling out of the Sarlacc pit anytime soon. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Turner said she chats with Johnson constantly but his schedule is very busy, with stuff like Knives Out 3.
