New Judas Trailer At State Of Play Shows Off BioShock-Like Combat

Here's a closer look at BioShock creator Ken Levine's upcoming game, Judas, straight out of the January State of Play broadcast.

Judas, Ken Levine's new narrative-driven game at Ghost Story Games, has remained under the radar since it debuted all the way back at The 2022 Game Awards. But at the January State of Play, Sony lifted the lid on this BioShock-inspired project with a new trailer showing off the dangers that the game's protagonist, the titular Judas, will have to overcome if she wants to escape from a crumbling spaceship named the Mayflower.

Imploring the player to "Fix what you broke," the trailer gives a glimpse at the game's very BioShock-esque combat, where players will be wielding weapons in Judas' right hand, while flinging what appear to be elemental abilities with her left hand. What exactly Judas "broke" is unclear, though it seems her decision to expose the the extreme surveillance the ship's higher-ups have used to spy on its residents for years may have something to do with it.

"I'm here to set you free," Judas says into a camera while livestreaming. "Whether you like it or not."

Beyond the gameplay mechanics and visual aesthetics that are inspired by the BioShock games, the other big draws of Judas are the psychological-thriller elements present as players hatch an escape plan. Players will have to make or break alliances with Judas' worst enemies, all while dealing with a Big Brother-style surveillance state and what appear to be some seriously invasive body modifications. Gameplay clips from the trailer show Judas being attacked in combat with everything from standard weaponry to what appears to be a can of spray paint.

In Judas, it seems that team work makes the dream--of not dying in the cold and unforgiving vacuum of space--work. "Will you work together to fix what you broke--or will you leave it to burn?" the game's mysterious synopsis reads.

Though no release date has been announced, Ghost Story Games is expected to release Judas sometime in 2024. Judas will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both the Epic Games Store and Steam, where the game is already available to wishlist.
