The recommended memory requirement is eight gigabytes of RAM, while the processor recommendation is the mid-range Intel i5-4590. The graphics card shouldn't be less powerful than the Nvidia GTX 970 or the AMD R9290.
Meanwhile, four USB ports are required for all parts of the peripheral to work (Oculus recommends that three of these are USB 3.0)
Oculus VR didn't provide separate minimum and recommended PC specs, instead combining the two together in the list below:
- Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
- Processor: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- Memory: 8GB+ RAM
- Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
- Input: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
- OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
What's in the Oculus Rift
Launch units of the Oculus Rift include a headset with built-in headphones and mic, as well as a standalone sensor that can track the peripheral. An Xbox One controller has also been added to every launch unit.
Meanwhile, the headset also includes the Oculus Remote, said to be "a new input device we designed to make it simple and intuitive to navigate VR experiences."
Oculus VR says the remote allows users to "easily browse the Oculus store, explore 360 video content in Oculus video, or experience a wide range of VR games and entertainment."
On Wednesday, the official Oculus Rift price was announced at $600.
The initial Oculus Rift release date is March 28, though the launch batch sold out within 15 minutes of going on sale. At the time of going to press, the next batch of units are estimated to ship in May.
Oculus Touch--the motion control device that operates with the Rift--has been delayed for release in the second half of 2016.
