The PlayStation 4 was the top-selling overall console in the United States during November 2015, Sony announced today ahead of the NPD Group's official report for the month. This is a change from October 2015, during which the Xbox One outsold Sony's console in the US, breaking Sony's hold atop the charts.

In a statement sent to GameSpot, Sony reiterated that PlayStation had its "strongest" Black Friday ever, though no official numbers for the shopping period were announced. Microsoft, too, had a strong Black Friday this year, the company announced last week.

Both the PS4 and Xbox One were offered for $300 on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The systems are available at that reduced price now, too, as part of new limited-time offers.

Sony's Eric Lempel added that November 2015 was the "biggest month ever for PlayStation Store indicating a strong digital marketplace complementing healthy retail sales."

In its own statement, Microsoft did not share any specific hardware numbers. However, the company said November 2015 was the best November on record for Xbox One in the US, setting new records for console sales, game sales, and Xbox Live engagement."

Total Xbox Live usership hours rose 44 percent compared to last year. In terms of games sales, first-party retail games jumped 72 percent when comparing sales from August through November 2015 to the same period last year.

Nintendo issued its own statement, too, confirming that Amiibo figures sold 1.2 million units in November, bringing their lifetime tally in the US to over 11 million. However, Wii U and 3DS hardware sales were not announced.
