Remnant 2: How Upgrading Weapons Works

If you want to take enemies down faster in Remnant II, you're going to have to upgrade your weapons fairly often. However, it's not a perfectly linear process, as there are some things going on behind the scenes in relation to material drops that you need to know. Don't worry, though--we'll cover that and more below.

How to upgrade weapons in Remnant II

You can upgrade your weapons by visiting Rigs in Ward 13. Each weapon upgrade will cost a certain amount of Scrap, as well as a certain amount of an Iron type. To max out the weapon at +20, you'll need to use a Simulacrum--a rare item that can only be found once per biome and is also used for upgrading your Relics.

• Iron - Improves up to +5
• Forged Iron - Improves up to +10
• Galvanized Iron - Improves up to +15
• Hardened Iron - Improves up to +19
• Simulacrum - Improves up to +20

If it all sounds pretty straightforward, be aware that there's actually a bit more to this process than meets the eye. In the early stages of the game, you'll just be finding lots of standard Iron because none of your weapons have been upgraded much. But as you're upgrading each individual item, you're actually also upgrading your total Weapon Level, which is an average of the levels of your three equipped weapons--two guns and a melee option.

New tiers of Iron will drop more frequently when your overall Weapon Level averages higher, meaning you'll need to consistently maintain the levels of all three of your weapons to get more of the next tier of Iron. If you let any of your weapons fall behind, you will continue to get more drops of lower-tier Iron until you've upgraded them. As a matter of fact, until you reach specific Weapon Level thresholds, you won't see any higher tiers of Iron at all.

Your average Weapon Level can be seen by opening "Advanced Stats" on your Character tab, so be sure to keep an eye on it and continue pushing for an overall Weapon Level that lands within the upgrade tier of whatever kind of Iron you need. In other words, if you need Galvanized Iron, make sure you've upgraded both of your guns and your melee weapon to +10 (or as close as you can get to it) to get the game to start dropping less Forged Iron and more Galvanized Iron.
