Retro consoles are all the rage these days, following in the wake of Nintendo's highly-successful NES and SNES minis. However, it seems that one retro company is interested in building something completely new. Developer and publisher SNK announced on Twitter that it'll be building a "brand-new console" for 2021.

SNK put out a NeoGeo Mini back in 2018 that included several of the company's most popular games, including entries in the King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, and Metal Slug series. However, it's not clear what exactly SNK is teasing here, though the WiFi symbol over the W in the teaser image seems to indicate it will involve multiplayer connectivity of some sort. Last year, SNK indicated that a "next-gen" NeoGeo would be coming after the NeoGeo Mini, and it looks like this might be that console.

Over the past few years, SNK has worked with teams like Code Mystics to create versions of its old games with rollback multiplayer, such as the cult fighting game Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The company also recently teased King Of Fighters 15, and it will be unveiled in early January.
