EA did not say, however, how many copies of Battlefront were sold-through to consumers. When Battlefront launched in November, EA said the game broke download records for the company, becoming its "largest digital launch of all time."

For the quarter ended December 31, EA posted revenue of $1.803 billion, which was above the company's guidance of $1.775 billion and ahead of the $1.42 billion the company recorded during the same period last year. EA made a profit of $596 million during the quarter, up substantially from the $388 profit it made during the holiday quarter a year ago.

Digital revenue was also a bright spot for EA during the quarter, reaching $807 million, compared to $693 million last year.

Here are some other highlights from EA's earnings report today, as written by EA:

  • The return of Need for Speed drew more than twice as many monthly active players in Q3 than the previous game.
  • Players logged more than 150 million hours of gameplay across Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline in Q3.
  • In Q3, Star Wars: The Old Republic grew to its highest subscriber level in nearly three years.
  • Madden NFL Mobile monthly active players were up nearly 50 percent year-over-year in Q3.

"This holiday season we connected millions of players through amazing games across multiple platforms," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement. "From the stunning visuals and gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront, to the anytime, anywhere competition in Madden NFL Mobile, players are deeply engaged across the increasing depth and breadth of the EA portfolio."
