Take-Two Interactive subsidiary Private Division, the publisher of Panache Digital Games' Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey and Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds, has opened a new studio in Seattle, Washington to handle development on the space flight simulator series Kerbal Space Program.

This Seattle-based studio will focus exclusively on KSP, taking over development from Star Theory. In a press briefing, Take-Two confirmed that this new team is comprised of members who have already worked on Kerbal Space Program 2, which will launch sometime between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. This new date range includes the possibility that KSP 2 might miss its tentative 2020 release window.

"When we first acquired Kerbal Space Program, we knew it would continue to be a blockbuster franchise. We're very excited about the launch of Kerbal Space Program 2 in Take-Two's fiscal year 2021 (ending March 31, 2021)," Private Division said over email. "Private Division believes strongly in the talented group of developers behind the game. The decision to open our own studio and move development in-house allows us to provide the development team with the necessary time and resources to complete [the] development of KSP 2 at the quality level we all want to deliver our players.

"Our goal--and the goal of our developers--is to provide our community with the highest level gaming experience with Kerbal Space Program 2."

Kerbal Space Program is a space-sim in which you assist the Kerbals in their quest to explore the vast expanse of space in a cobbled-together aircraft. We gave the first entry a 9/10 in our Kerbal Space Program review, saying it has an "almost sacred respect for the tiny miracles involved in space travel."

Kerbal Space Program 2 was revealed during the Opening Night Live broadcast at Gamescom 2019. In the reveal, we got an announcement trailer, as well as confirmation that it is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
