The Elder Scrolls 6 Might Be Todd Howard's Last Elder Scrolls

The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming--eventually--and the next return to Tamriel could be Bethesda boss Todd Howard's final journey into that fantasy universe. Speaking to IGN, Howard explained that he was considering just how many games he had left in him as modern game development is now a longer process and post-launch support for these titles also has to be factored in.

"I want to be faster, but speed isn't the goal," Howard said. "So our ability, like we talked about, to support Starfield... Whereas maybe in the old days, you would put it out and then you'd go on to a sequel, now we can support that game for a much longer period of time, which is what our plan is. And then as we look to an Elder Scrolls 6, that is one where... I probably shouldn't say this. But if I do the math, I'm not getting any younger. How long do people play Elder Scrolls for? That may be the last one I do. I don't know."

Bethesda is currently focused on Starfield, its first major release since Fallout 4 in 2015 and its first new intellectual property in over 25 years. The Elder Scrolls 6 will be Bethesda's next major single-player release after Starfield and will be followed by Fallout 5 in the not-so-near future.

Starfield is now closing in on the finish line after years of development and several delays, and June 11's Starfield Direct had plenty of new information to share on the game.
