HBO's The Last of Us has begun production on its highly anticipated second season. Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in the sophomore season, told Deadline that she recently began filming her scenes and had very good things to say about her co-star Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Abby.

She said Dever is "one of the most talented actors I've ever worked with."

Merced also teased that someone who she can't reveal recently joined the cast of The Last of Us for Season 2, and she's excited about that, too. "I can't say who just joined. But he's amazing. And he's a future superstar and already a superstar in my eyes," she said.

Merced said she played The Last of Us: Part II in one weekend and is a big fan. "And then I wondered, how is this going to translate onto TV," she said.

"Craig Mazin is one of the most brilliant people, actually, I think, a genius. I'm sure if they did the test, they would find out that it's true," Merced added. "And he just has a way of bringing these characters to life that no one could ever just come up with in such a short amount of time. I love him. He's amazing."

The Last of Us Season 2 will cover at least some of the events of The Last of Us: Part II, and anyone who's played the game or knows the story will understand the weight of what's to come.

As for when Season 2 will premiere, fans can expect the show to debut at some point in 2025. The next major HBO release is House of the Dragon Season 2, which arrives this summer.
