2K Games today announced that a sequel to the Vietnam War-themed first-person shooter Vietcong should arrive for the PC in late 2005.

Details are sparse, but 2K Games did confirm that Vietcong 2 would feature a new 3D engine and a single-player campaign to go with new multiplayer modes. Fans of the original game and its expansion pack, Vietcong: Fist Alpha, will be happy to know that developer Pterodon is once again doing the honors.

"The first Vietcong was a big success for us," said Christoph Hartmann, senior vice president of publishing for 2K Games. "Almost two years after its initial release, there are still hundreds of servers and thousands of gamers playing Vietcong all day, every day. With Vietcong 2, we intend to give hardcore fans and newcomers alike an even bigger and better experience."

We’ll bring you more information on Vietcong 2 as it becomes available.
