World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was previously scheduled to release on October 27, meaning it was intended to be out earlier this week. However, the game was delayed, and we now know fans won't have to wait too much longer: Shadowlands releases on November 23.

In a note posted on the series' official Twitter, executive producer John Hight said the extra time is being used to add polish as well as improve the endgame content in the expansion, change the combat, and rework Covenant systems and certain rewards.

The game's pre-patch already went live, which is essentially the first step in any World of Warcraft expansion's full release. A pre-launch event begins November 10, as well, which will feature the Scourge, and the first raid will begin on December 8. This raid, Castle Nathria, will also mark the beginning of the game's Season 1 content.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the first expansion for the game since 2018's Battle for Azeroth, which received a mixed reception. It features some major changes from the other expansions, including the ability to change your character's gender without a fee, and the level cap has been reduced back to 60 after years of "power creep." Characters at higher levels will have them scaled down, which should make it simpler for new players to get into the game.

The Covenant system also contains some elements from different expansions, letting you align with one of four sects for special powers.

Alongside the standard edition, you can preorder a World of Warcraft: Shadowlands collector's edition for $120. It includes a level boost, flying mount, transmog quest, pet, weapon effect, and more.
