Baldur's Gate Alliance for the Switch makes a welcome return since the Gamecube version 21 years ago.

User Rating: 10 | Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance NS

The good: The structure of the game is intact, makes Game Boy Color slightly inferior as a handheld, no frame-rate issues, perfect for two players.

The bad: Nothing much has changed, getting the forth character can be very lengthy to get.

Those who remember the old days might remember when the Gamecube version first came out. A few compromises has to be made from High Voltage Software who is later is behind The Conduit and its sequel. Even in Australia, it can be slightly chopper at slower speeds. Those who plays the Game Boy Color might like the hack and slash on the go with alterations due to its cartridge and less horsepower. The issues you still worry from 21 years ago is all gone now.

Let's get it out of the way! Everything has been stayed intact with less loading time, smooth frame rate and improved graphics. The controls between the Gamecube and Switch has been improved considerably. The audio is still the same though the Dolby Surround sound is no longer there anymore.

Despite being perfect, nothing much has changed, though I wish they could cut out the frustrating jumping levels in favor of a more straight forward levels that works much better. Most of all, the forth character can take a long time to unlock. Even with the ability to use the fully experienced characters, it will be a painful experience at best but the character you unlock will have its own uniqueness which I won't spoil.

You start with either a human, dwarf and an elven sorceress. Humans are good for beginners. Dwarfs are useful as a tank. Elven sorceress may be at a disadvantage in terms of weapons and armor but makes up with powerful spells and as you upgrade, you can cover her weaknesses as she's the only woman in the team.

Think of it as two in one. You can relive your experience of this game and also play it on the go. Put your fears aside and enjoy this game in its own right. Even after 21 years since the Gamecube and Game Boy Color version, the fears of inferior graphics and finally be put aside. Just hope the Switch will have a sequel since the Gamecube doesn't have it at all but other than that, you can enjoy what you missed 21 years ago if you are new to it.
