Best FPS around but there are some annoying gameplay bugs

User Rating: 9 | Battlefield 1 PC

Well I'm one year late to the party after the game's release and picked up the Revolution pack for 20 pounds. I've owned all the Battlefield games to date.

The latest reiteration comes with a shiny new game engine taken from Star Wars battlefront and its a beautiful game to look at. The game is very polished and runs well, getting between 70-150fps at 1080p.

Single player is fun and has a good story that carries you through epic real life WW1 battles in a series of different chapters.

Multiplayer has all the usual game modes and there is nothing really new here other than the much vaulted "Operations" game mode which is supposed to be the flagship of the game involving battles across the world. The reality is this involves nothing more than a rehashed version of Conquest mode combined with Rush whereby you have to capture 3 points over 3 rounds, each round taking about 20 minutes. This leaves you playing the same map 3 times over the course of 1 hour to get all the xp at the end. Obviously this gets boring pretty fast.

The maps are excellent and intended to be realistic versions of actual WW1 battles.

Leveling is pretty quick if you play the operations game mode, but battle packs now merely give you useless skins. It feels like there's no progression in this game, all guns are more or less the same - in previous versions of Battlefield you had to play for hours to rank up and get the guns you wanted, but in BF1 it's just like there's no incentive to play.

Also there is massive imbalance. Support guns are useless, sniper weapons and pistols are massively overpowered - the scenario that you shoot someone in the back with a rifle you have spent hours to unlock and someone turns around and one shots you with a pistol. Also almost everyone is playing sniper. There are a couple of custom no sniper servers where the gameplay is much more enjoyable.

The game is also rife with cheaters using hacks.

Stability is good with no crashes or glitches and I'm getting 70-150fps.

Overall the game is pretty good, feels exhilarating and action fats paced complimented by realistic graphics.

The most annoying thing is that every time you die you have to hold down the spacebar to get to the spawn screen (to give medics a chance to revive you) and there's no way of changing this key binding. Also before you join again like previous BF games, there is still no way to know how many tickets are left or how long the game may last and some of these games last for ages.

Overall it's a great game and I wish I had not taken so long to buy it.
