It's like "anime-fighter Smash Bros.," and that's awesome!

User Rating: 9 | BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle - Special Edition XBSX

Pros:

  • Cool crossover elements between all of the included franchises.
  • Loaded to the absolute brim with style all throughout.
  • Fighting mechanics are very accessible but still very deep.
  • Roster is pretty awesome, too, and the characters themselves feel very balanced.
  • Solid amount of story content to keep you coming back.
  • This is a real treat as far as the visual style is concerned.
  • Music is really phenomenal stuff, which shouldn't be unexpected given the included games.
  • Even just looking at what was available in the base game, there's a lot here as far as content.
  • All the added content adds even more value to the overall package.

Cons:

  • The final boss fights feel anticlimactic in each episode, especially Episode Extra.
  • It was kinda sucky hearing that the game, at least at launch, had you fighting CPU characters that were not available yet and would not be until DLC came along.

Consensus: What a pleasant surprise! Had it not come to Xbox Game Pass, "BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle" would've honestly just slipped past my radar. I'm really glad it didn't, though; this is an incredibly stylish fighting game that's an absolute blast to play. I don't have any familiarity with the franchises it crosses over ("BlazBlue," "Persona 4," "Under Night In-Birth" and "RWBY," at least pre-DLC), yet I found this easy to get into and enjoy. Smooth controls, excellent fighting mechanics, plenty of content, stylish visual design...can't really ask for much more! If you haven't given this game a chance, definitely do so. The Xbox Game Pass release should give you even more reason to do so.
