Proper, old-school gaming at it's very best; one of the best smash-em-up, take-em-down driving games there is.

User Rating: 8 | Burnout Dominator PSP
There are several ways of making a driving game: the realistic way, like Forza Motorsport and GranTurismo; the cop-v-criminal way that Need For Speed employs; and then there's the driving game which focus's entirely on destroying the other players and going as is humanly possible.

That's where Burnout comes into it's own.

And Dominator is the defining showcase to prove Burnout's credibility: the cars looked like they've been designed by angry teenagers; the game actively encourages you to drive like a loon; and the Road-Rage mode is as addictive as ever.

All pleasant and correct, business as usual then. Should you be new to the game and ask "Why is Burnout so good? Why does all this matter to me?", then I would regale you with Burnout's many gaming merits:

Firstly, although the end of the game in Career mode is far to difficult, most of it progresses nicely from easy to challenging, and Road-Rage is the perfect balance of both.

The cars you drive are all clearly based on what look like heavily modified road-cars, resplendent in huge bodykits and custom paint-jobs, but they're all given childish names like "Tuned Classic Muscle" and "Super Assassin Racer".

In a realistic driving game, an attempted slam into another car would send you into a skid and into a tree, but in Burnout, you can perform epic, car-chase movie "takedowns'" with barely a nudge of a button. And when you do, there's a cool sound-effect, and a slow-motion replay of your takedown. As if the game couldn't fuel your aggression more, it displays the word "TAKEDOWN!!!" on the screen.

There is a definite sense you are going at stupid speeds in Burnout Dominator. Every little part of it is designed to turn even the most mild-mannered gamer into a snarling, swivel-eyed loon with several ASBO's and a nasty case of road rage.

It's the most addictive driving game I've ever played, hence why the casing's broken from over-usage, and it's the "Dominator" of almost all competition besides the gaming royalty which would cost at least twice as much as this to buy new. A must-own for all petrolheads.
