EARLY ACCESS REVIEW. Another tedious unrealistic "SURVIVAL" game.

User Rating: 5 | Conan Exiles (Early Access) PC

I would definitely wait a few months before buying this diamond in the rough with so much shining potential.

Right now the game is pretty bare bones especially in single player which is what i play. Animations freeze up alot with human enemies being the most noticeable as they glide across the land when attacking instead of doing a walking or run animation. No hit impact animations when i hit an enemy with weapons so it looks like they are not even phased or effected by my blows. Combat animations are very stiff, clunky and unnatural as if fighting zombies from the horribly animated game 7 DAYS TO DIE.

There are times when they dont seem to notice me at all then there are others when am really far away and they can spot me easily.

Food and water which you need to survive is used rather quickly as the player's hunger/thirst bars go down very fast killing immersion as your constantly looking for food resources eventhough this can be adjusted a little in the server settings.

Game personality wise i really dont see anything new here that has not been done before in a similar manner and better by other games. The crafting is similar but not anywhere near as polished as it is in games like ARK. Graphics are underwhelming alongside the mostly empty landscapes with only the adult nudity looking very nice which is also the only thing that makes this game stand out otherwise its been there done that with nowhere the amount of content a early acess release should have.

Considerring how am seeing more and more early access titles pushing the sex and nudity angle without ever finishing their games am starting to take this as a sign of buyer beware and wait for the finished product. Such a shame considering how nudity can set a excellent tone to an already mature game setting.

There is also the horrible save mechanic where you can only save afer your character has slept but to do this you have to craft a bed which unrealistically your character does not know how to do until they learn the proper crafting skill to make twine out of fiber eventhough your character is a full grown adult. The save bed is also only good for one use so you will find yourself having to make a bed over and over which just seems like needless busy work and tedious when connected to the save system.

Whatever happened to just being able to save when you want especially when real life calls. Another thing is on default server settings you will lose all your items everytime you die even if you saved your game so you have to start absolutely from scratch again eventhough your character stays at level five or whatever they were before they died.

Another issue is how the player seems to be the center of attention. When getting attacked for example by a crocodile i would try to lure it into the vicinity of other creatures (hyenas, giant turtles, monsters etc) or humans so they will attack it or vice versa yet nothing ever happens instead everybody goes after me as i run around like Benny Hill with a whole village of different species suddenly united to take me down.

Framerate wise it is running pretty smooth on both my older i5 3470k cpu which has just been upgraded to a i7 3770, 8gb ram, Geforce 970 with 4gb vram.

The dedicated Devs are constantly updating the game with fixes at least three times a week.

Unfortunately right now i cant recommend the game. When one pays money for a product even early access it should be fit for consumption in the same way as other early access games have come out the door such as GRIM DAWN, THE LONG DARK, THE DARKEST DUNGEON, THE FOREST etc.
