In Christmas 2010, I received Donkey Kong Country Returns as a christmas present. I had never played a Donkey Kong Country game before, so this was new for me and also exciting. The main plot for this game takes place on Donkey Kong Island, where a volcano erupts and awakens a tribe called the Tiki Tak Tribe, who go and steal all of the bananas by hypnotizing all of the animals into stealing the bananas for them. One of the tikis tries to hypnotize Donkey Kong, but this doesn't work and Donkey Kong proceeds to beating the crap out of him, before setting out on his adventure.
The game's gameplay has been massively changed from the SNES games. Some of these changes include the health system: which lets you take two hits before losing a life, the Kong Roll: which is the barrel roll when Diddy Kong is there as well as new level type: The Rocket Barrel levels! I love the new gameplay mechanics that were added to it, as it takes the original Donkey Kong Country gameplay and updates it, while adding some cool new features inside it too. The graphics are stunning for this game, the environments are spectacular and the levels are as challenging as ever!!
My main problem with the game is the Rocket Barrel levels because the controls feel a little unresponsive, which can be the cause of cheap deaths.
All I can say is that Nintendo did a fantastic job with rebooting the Donkey Kong franchise with this game and if you haven't played this game, then you can buy it on either the Wii or the 3DS!! This game gets my recommendation for any Donkey Kong fan or a person who loves platformer games.
