Not the best in the Total War series but certainly not the worst.

This game at first is quite hard to get into, its a lot different to the Total wars of old, and will require some getting used to. This game has a huge map, which expands from the Americas to India which were the main fronts of the 1700's one of the most important centuries of all time. The units in the game are incredibly detailed although some things were not present mainly little details like the white piping on the British Line Infantry tricornes the major lack of detail is the lack of marching bands which was a disappointment but these things can be resolved with modding. This is also the first Total war game with Naval battles a feature demanded by many and my favorite part of the game since I am a better Admiral then General. The game does not have as many factions as previous games but still enough to keep you playing the only drawback is that most nations are pretty much the same all European units look the same just in the colours of their nations. The game has a campaign based on the American Revolution which starts with the the Colonization of America with the formation of Jamestown. The Battle of Bunker Hill is also featured but is very difficult. Unfortunately their isn't an alternate scenario where you play as the British and stop the American Revolution. The Campaign is pretty much the same as the previous total wars, however cities are alot different then before. The cities are not the center of every Provence you now have smaller cities and docks and various improvements such as mines are independent from the city in that Provence which is something I don't like since I use a Centralized policy when I play games such as this. Also there are small cities that cannot be turned into large cities which is another problem as they are a pain to defend since they can't field good units because you can't build several buildings there you can only choose barracks or a Town Hall. A town hall only improves the profit that town makes, only Militia can be trained from them. The game is also the first total war to feature research which allows you to get ahead of your foes by researching things like box formation or steam engines this is a welcomed feature since it can be fun to rain down percussive mortar shells down at your enemies. Overall the game is good however I recommend playing the other titles much more like Rome Total war and Medieval II Total war.
