Well that just about puts the final nail in the coffin. I am so glad I canx'd my sub when the whole Gerstmann gate occurred. Gamespot is not what it used to be and won't. All the good people who still work there please move on and save yourselves. Hopefully they will start their own website.

What a damn shame.

Yeah. This is super depressing. This used to be one of like three or four websites that I visited on a daily basis and the only one where I actually felt like part of a community. Now, I come here less and less...

Just saying that he's planning on leaving is enough to say he's already gone. I'm extraordinarily hardpressed to keep my subscription now.

Now i have NO reason to come here anymore. Alex did great sports game reviews. CNET/Gamespot or whoever is in charge of this sinking ship needs to realize that fans come here for the TALENT.... not the name Gamespot. We support the people we like.... not the people paying their paychecks.A perfect example is Howard Stern leaving for Sirius Sattlelite radio... and his fans all followed. The Radio stations he was on are now F'ing failing miserably. Fans care about and supportthe TALENT! Get that through your thick skulls whoever is running Gamespot.

Alex is leaving through his own choice, so how is this GameSpot's fault?

Yeah sux, does anyone know where Jeff is going? That's going to be something interesting to follow. If I were GS/CNet, I'd come up with some really new site strategy to make up for all these losses, new shows, new people (+ existing) etc. otherwise this is all contributing to sinking this ship, action is needed! What a mess this whole thing is...

AlexN was important, and while another fan favorite editor leaving does deeply concern me, I won't be giving up on the site just yet.

This is starting to bum me out.

My favorite Gamespot staff are leaving.

Carrie, Greg, Rich, Jeff, Tim, and now Alex (if it's true).

I know there are others, but these are the ones I miss (will miss) the most.

I hope they all are doing well. I read most of their blogs.

Since the whole Jeff incident I no longer take GameSpots review scores seriously, in fact I just downright ignore them. All I use GS for now is for game news direction. I see what is going on then go to other sites to get the scoop. I have nothing against the people who work here at GS but the more you put on this "we will continue to provide you the best game coverage" talk is meaningless and seems a bit forced when I hear it. GS went from being THE game site to go to to simply being another PR controlled outlet.

I wish all the GS staff the best, I wish you would all leave and start your own site it would ROCK!

Boy, now I'm no rocket scientist, but I sure could imagine that Alex leaving on his own terms wouldn't negate the idea that the entire fiasco is completely Gamespot's fault!

If it haden't been for Alex I would never have learned about Big Rigss... now I don't know if I Should thank him for that though 8-)

Hopefully they will make a little tribute on "On The Spot" for him.

If Alex didn't do the review then someone else would have, which means you still would have learned about it. Big Rigs is such a bad game that no one would give it a good score.

It's a shame for the people who have left like Carrie, Greg and now Alex, but I won't cancell my subscription for it. I pay for HD movies, faster download speeds and 700k streaming, and that's what I get.

Perhaps But I'm not sure they would have done it so funny, as he did.

Gamespot still have great people, Ryan and Ryan, Brad, Brian Ekberg and so on, but yeah it's sad to see the others go, but I will stil visit the site.

While it does sadden me to see so many of the people I liked leave, GameSpot still has great people left, and if they can just work through this whole mess and get the site back to regular speed (as in updates, stories, reviews, etc etc), I think they can turn things around. About the only thing that can really make me leave the site is if the rumors about why Jeff was fired turn out to be true.

As GameSpot countinues it's desend into suck. And to think, this is all because of a 6.0. And anyone who says differently is in denial. I'm gonna stick out for a little while longer since there are still some great editors here. But soon enough, this site will be dead. CNET really screwed you guys big time.

You know, there are still plenty of great and entertaining people on the GameSpot staff. I hate to see topics like this that say it's a "sinking ship" because really... it's not.

I think my avatar says it all for me. GameSpot is still the best place on the Internet to read up on video game related stuff. Enough said! :)

Good move Alex - noone should work for a place that doesn't respect them!

Hopefully he'll team up with Jeff ( and Rich and Carrie and Tim and Greg and ALL the others who got the heck out of there ) and set up a site or join one of the rivals... I really miss the energy and humour from the good old days!

I think Godwin's law applies here: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one. When such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress.
