Poll Do you wear a watch? (40 votes)

Yes 40%
No 60%

So i've heard many zoomers say things like "who the hell wears a watch these days?", and that's kinda weird to me cuz i always see a men wearing a watch, like a woman wearing her jewelry. Has nothing to do with keeping time, you have a phone for that, and its more a "swag" status.

So do you wear one? If you wear some trashy Apple watch, nobody cares🙃

I've never been one for watches or accessories in general.

I sure don't want a device that can push alerts from my phone either. I flip that thing over for a reason.

Good to know the watch as swag is no longer fashionable tho.

Is it, tho? When you're in public, pay attention, most will have a watch on their wrist. Zoomers might not, or have a second smart-phone on their wrist aka some smart-watch, usually from Apple.

I do wear a watch. I've always used one to track my time when I'm out on a run, so that's made me used to having a watch on my wrist, and I've always found it quicker to glance at my wrist to tell the time opposed to pulling my phone out of my pocket.

Nope. I hate it when it leaves a mark on your wrist or your wrist gets sweaty from wearing it.

yup. wife got me a nicer one as a 30th b-day gift. worn daily for 10+ years now. still easier to look at my wrist than pull my phone out of my pocket to tell the time.

Yep. Got one as a gift. Much easier to just look at it rather than grabbing a phone all the time.

Nope. Of course, I would accept it if someone bought me one. I would thank them, but I don't think I would ever use it.

I don't like wearing things in general; the second I'm home, my shoes and socks are off, and my comfy gym shorts are on.

I'm not wearing jewelry. Something dangling from my wrist? Not for me.

It's more of a fashion thing these days, anyway, so watches definitely count as jewelry in my opinion. They fall into the same category as rings, necklaces, and earrings.

Yes.

A Rolex Yacht-Master II when at work or out for the evening. An Apple Watch Series 7 the rest of the time.

A good watch is more than just a time piece; it's a piece of fine jewelry. It should not be a priority but Zoomers should get a good watch when they can actually afford them. When they're ready to think about class.

People wearing watches as a status symbol are kind of hilarious, unless they also wear a monocle. Then they have my respect.

I'm hoping canes make a return, that's pure class!

Once you advance enough in your profession to find yourself regularly in serious spaces where serious shit gets done, we'll all look forward to seeing what make and model of watch you decided to buy.

Until then, carry on youngster. Just try not to cut yourself on that edge.

@adrian1480: That's some real small dick energy. Just because you were born in 1480 doesn't mean young folk like me born in the 70s have to give a **** about tribal status. I just don't, I find it pathetic and I like to let people know how I feel. Nothing like seeing some wannabe silver back letting his insecurities do the talking.

lol right? Nothing wrong with a watch, but not for that reasoning. Sounds like overthinking the ladder climb. Wear a watch if you like wearing a watch, simple as that.

It's funny, couple of years back, CEO of the AI startup I was at had just won Nat Geo explorer of the year. Part of the award was a Rolex on the more pricey end. So we're kicking back some brews to celebrate. It's that guy. Another former Nat Geo winner who runs our cultural heritage preservation biz. And one of our bigger investors, a commercial real estate mogul out of Europe.

Two long time multi-millionaires and a billionaire, guys who start new companies for fun, invent new shit, make big things happen. And then me, the salary man. Guess who's the only one in that room wearing a watch? 😂

I only remember this because they were laughing about the Rolie as an award, talking about how pointless watches are, just outdated jewelry for men, etc. Dude tossed the Rolie over in a bin lol

-

I love a nice watch, feel naked without one at this point. And for me it's often functional as a timepiece, try to stay away from the phone as much as I can.

But yeah, this idea that it's serious business for serious men, foh lol. I'm well accomplished in my field, can pull up in shorts, a tee, and some flip flops if I want. Nothing make or break about a watch.

I wouldn't say that watches in general are status symbols, but some high end brands most certainly are so.

I would say that many traditional watches are both time pieces and jewelry as well. That doesn't mean they have to be expensive, but often match or fit with what you are wearing...or represent something about you.

Then there are many other watches in disguise as something else, like Fitbits et al. that purport to be primarily about other functions...like counting steps...but are actually mostly used for telling time.

Personally I always wear a watch, or my Fitbit, and I have several of them. I prefer them for time because I rarely carry my phone in hand.

I perceive phones to be far more likely to be associated with status then watches in general, as so many people seem obsessed with constant upgrading of their phones.

I agree with this^

I also wear several watches. That way, at a glance, I can know the time in London, New York, Paris and Lagos. It's just a convenience thing for me, and I do hope nobody infers anything about my status as a consequence.

No, I don't like wearing anything on myself like that, jewelery included. I think the last time I wore a watch was when I was in elementary school.

I've never really enjoyed the physical feeling of where things on my wrist, or rings on my fingers.

This use to be problematic for me before we all had a phone in our pockets and it was sort of a peer pressure thing/expectation that you would wear one as an adult, and it's still problematic for me occasionally when it comes to wearing my wedding ring. As far as rings go I actually have two, and I love the way they look (wood inlay bands) but I don't love how it feels when I wear them, but I have come around to enjoying them when I get all dressed up so there's that.

I wear a Fitbit fitness watch.

I wear it practically 24/7, other than the times I'm recharging it or getting wet.

I never did when i was younger, but I do now. I noticed that upper management always had smart watches on and now I get it. It's easier to read email notifications and correspondence on your watch during meetings. Some people think your disengaged in a meeting when you're always looking at your phone, but a quick glance at your watch to see if it's something important is much more socially acceptable in buisness and leadership meetings.
