Square or circular avatars, which ones do you prefer?

As long as online services allowing you to submit avatars have existed, traditionally they were fitted inside square borders. In recent years, however, many services have started to use circular borders instead, likely in an effort to look modern. While these circular avatars usually work just fine, there's always a chance that details might be lost in the process so try to keep that in mind when you're about to submit an avatar to a service that uses these circular borders.

With that out of the way, I would like to ask you a question: Which type of avatar do you prefer, square or circular? While Gamestop usually uses standard square avatars, it also uses circular ones on occasion such as the front page, allowing simple comparisons to ensue.

Don't really have a preference.

Always prefer the square avatar shapes as they are more bigger and ca upload at a much better pic and the I'm not a fan of the circles but if Gamespot can somehow make them a little bigger, I'll be okay with the new look.

I'm the opposite, I always look at the avatars I'm used to seeing who that person is and more so than the names.

Hate pretty much everything about this modern forum design.

I use circles in DnD (for Roll20), but I guess for online forums I prefer squares.

Do mods have any say in the direction of the forum, from a design standpoint? I imagine not but you never know, they might listen.

We never did have a saying what direction the forum's design should be. We're just Rangers on the field and well, that's all we're good for.
