A recent post in SW got me thinking about this. In general I think puzzlers get little attention in the modern gaming space, but on classic machines they had an important presence (and some of us just love them).

What's your favorite retro puzzle game? The classic Tetris? Columns? For me, it might actually be Wetrix + for Dreamcast. This game is WEIRD, colorful, great music, and can get really tough!

When it comes to classic puzzle games, my all time favorite will always be Tetris series and I been playing Tetris from the Gameboy version to the Xbox version of Tetris. Sad to hear there's going to be a Tetris movie, my childhood is ruin.

I don't really play traditional puzzle games, but I guess Super Columns would be my answer since I've spent the most time with it.

Just a bunch that have stayed with me over the years.

Not the biggest fan of puzzle games in general, because they're too limited in their scope to interest me. Strategy games / board games are more my thing.

@doubutsuteki: my friend, you just made my day. I should have clarified that I was thinking about console puzzlers - Lemmings and TEMIM are two of my all-time favorite games :-) Lode Runner is great too

Hah, cool.

I've gotta say that Lode Runner: The Legend Returns really is the best version of Lode Runner, except maybe for the expanded version of it that came out shortly afterwards: The Mad Monk's Revenge, which I never played. I gotta do that someday!

The Incredible Machine I always referred to as TIM.

yeah, TEMIM is an expanded sequel "The Even More Incredible Machine" - basically just TIM with more whizbangs to play with if I recall

I've never played that many, but I really liked Yoshi and Tetris (both on the Gameboy) when I was a kid. Later, I also played the PSP games Lumines and Lumines II a lot.

Puyo Puyo series(Kirby's Avalanche/Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine), Yoshi's Cookie, Pokemon Puzzle League

If puzzle action/platformers also count then I would also throw in the Bomberman series and Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Chu Chu Rocket was the shit. I'm honestly surprised that Sega never released an updated version of this on PSN/XBL.

My favourites have to be Tetris and Columns: simple yet ridiculously addictive!

The adventures of lolo is one of my favorite NES games. Fun puzzle game.
