With Hellblade 2 just around the corner, bringing an alternative to the barrage of current open world games.

What linear games have you enjoyed?

I quite like guardians of the galaxy and alien isolation amongst others

How is it not? To those expecting it to be one of the best, i am telling them that there's ZERO chance.

Too many to list. Could think of well over 100+ from the NES, SNES, and arcade alone. I am very much looking forward to Hellblade II though.

Too many. Linear games are always better than some of open world

  • Doom and Doom Eternal
  • Max Payne games
  • Metro 2033 and Last light
  • FEAR
  • Resident Evil 4 remake
  • Alan wake 1
  • Robocop Rogue city

Doom isn't linear. It has secrets levels, therefor non-linear paths.

best linear games are one with non linear paths.

FEAR is extremely linear office corridor but HOLY CRAP!! its most replayable game of all time like. I rather replay it over and over again than any of 90s shooter.

90's shooters are superior. The genre has fallen.

It comes up on steam for 15 bucks and I always "almost" buy it. Lol... I've never watched a marvel movie after Spiderman 2 with Toby Mcguire and so the stories and characters mean little to me. As a game though.... You'd recommend it?

Good thing the I did not by Guardians of the Galaxy during a Steam sale, as it was given away for free on EGS the very next week. Tried it, deleted after a couple hours - just a noisy mess.

As for actually good linear games, I'll add SOMA and Metal Hellsinger to the list.

Every time I play FEAR I quit after 30 minutes because the guns look rather basic and don't feel powerful, what am I doing wrong?

Far too many to mention really considering the majority of favourite games are linear.

  1. Metal Gear Solid 4
  2. The Last of Us
  3. Metal Gear Solid 2
  4. The Last of Us 2
  5. Devil May Cry
  6. Metal Gear Solid 3
  7. Resident Evil 4
  8. Uncharted 2
  9. Bioshock Infinite
  10. Metal Gear Solid

This is not including semi-open, games like Bloodborne, DS3, GoW, GOWR, BG3, D2, FFX, Sekiro, ME2, DA: Origins, etc.

And obviously not open world: Elden Ring, MGS5, RDR2, GTA:VC, Oblivion, etc.
