Poll Do you prefer playing on TV, monitor, or handheld/phone? (56 votes)

TV 57%
Monitor 34%
Handheld/Phone 9%

I like all three of course, but my favorite is on the TV. It's just much easier to play games on. If you're playing FPS games, especially multiplayer, trying to play on a handheld sucks lol. But even other genres too, like open world. You get to see the huge open world in a much better, clearer way. To me, handheld is truly for situations where you can't use a TV at the moment. Monitors are best for RTS. How about you, SW?

Monitor for sure.

It's more convenient for me. Also like the high refresh rates and low input latency. WQHD is still the optimal resolution for gaming.

I have a 65" TV, HDR and all that. It's good for those cinematic games like FF7R when I want the full surround sound experience. Don't use it often tho, plus I gotta whip out the laptop if I want a reference display or Discord chat (bc doing anything on a phone is awful).

Handheld is only going to be used when I'm laying in bed (Analogue Pocket).

TV. Even when I had my gaming PC I used my Kuro PDP from 2008-16.

2 OLEDs later and I have my 77" OLED flagship. Wouldn't trade it for any monitor.

But if I were rich as **** I'd definitely be gaming on a high end projector.

rich me would be playing on a JVC D-ILA NZ8/9.

Super rich me would choose a Dolby/Christie Eclipse pure RGB laser projector. The best (consumer or professional) display ever made.

Controller on TV, mouse and keyboard on monitor.

Unless I was able to make a spare room for PC gaming in which I could place a desk in the middle, a big TV a few feet ahead and speakers all around. Then I'd be happy to play with a mouse and keyboard and TV.

Monitors, followed by handheld screens. I only play on TVs if I want to use my older systems.

My preference would be TV/handheld/or docked. Never got into the iPhone. I tried to play on the iPhone, but my fingers got in the way of the screen.

I prefer to game on a TV but I'm definitely taking a handheld with me whenever I leave the house. For some reason I play the Switch way more in handheld then docked. It's just really easy to pick it up, even when you're doing something else.

Monitor. Aside from retro SF/MK matches at the office, or the occasional game at a friends place, I've only gamed on my TV like twice in the past decade.

Started out as most TVs straight up sucked for gaming post-CRT. A decent selection of TVs finally got good for gaming again in recent years, but at this point just prefer the desktop setup.

@SolidGame_basic:

Nothing too fancy atm. Primary is some LG gsync nano ips. 1440p@144hz. Secondary some older BenQ tn panel. Was the main display used for FG tournaments some years back. Both prioritize performance, but the LG actually looks pretty nice.

My two 4k production monitors went with the job recently. 😞

T.V. without even a second thought. My “82” Samsung 4K does nicely for the XSX. Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite looks awesome on it.

Yeah, no biggie for now tho. Not like I used them for gaming anyways. Will wait and see if the next job hooks me up. If not, just grab one. Probably get rid of the old BenQ, keep the LG for gaming, buy a new 4k monitor for productivity.

Oh and 27" on both. Probably gonna sound dumb, but at the distance I typically sit that seems to be the sweet spot for fighting games lol. Definitely go bigger on monitors for 3d work.

Monitor. It's the sweet spot.

Affordable, best performance, and relative to how far you sit from it I think it is the best view/picture.

For less than $300 you can get a decent-sized 1440p monitor with Gsync or something and 144 hz refresh rate.

Depends.

If I'm at home, I prefer gaming on my PC with my monitor. It makes me very immersed in my games.

If I'm at home and want to casually play some Nintendo shit, or couch coop something, then TV is the way to go.

If I'm not home, then handheld.

But yeah, overall I probably game on PC with monitor 90% of the time. Would've been different if Nintendo didn't stop making cool shit.

TV all the way! That's my preference, but in reality I use a monitor about 60-0% of the time. More convenient.

I tend to go for monitors. No major reason mind. I used to play on a TV and it was fine.

My current screen (LG 43UD79) pretty much fulfills all my viewing needs. PC and consoles covered. It wasn't quite the screen i wanted (my old screen broke before that released) but it does the job.

Monitor. FOV, HZ, and PPI is king. No TV quite gives the feeling of being in the game as a 140+ PPI screen a few inches away. Extreme immersion. This can't even be done with the best gaming TV (42" C2). There is a reason the top esports players use monitors and not TVs, even in the handful of console esports.

Now we just need a 27-32" 4K 144-240hz OLED so we can have all the advantages of TV and Monitors in 1 display. I hear those will come out in 2023, with 3 companies currently trying to make the panel.

About six weeks ago it was my monitor, a Gigabyte M32U. That was until I purchased my 42" LG C2 OLED, now it's a TV for gaming. I play most PC titles and all Xbox Series X games on it. OLED FTW!!

Honestly, nothing comes close to OLED for picture quality!

As for handhelds, I should be getting my pre-ordered 512GB Steam Deck in a few days. I'll let you know!

All of the above but you left off VR which I'd include as well. I lean towards different options for different experiences. Movies I mainly do on my "tv" which is a 4k laser projector. I also game on this a lot, but depending on the game I may want to play on my monitor(s) which are mini-LED HDR displays (one 4k and one ultrawide). I also tend to game on mobile when I'm chilling on the couch with my wife watching TV.

Then there's VR on top of that, which I save for VR games obviously but also to play non-VR exclusive games in VR through the use of native support or mods (No Man's Sky sometimes, Elite Dangerous sometimes, Cyberpunk 2077 with a mod, etc).

Monitor. Only time I prefer using TV is when playing co-op games.
