This game should be available at retail stores for Xbox 360 for these reasons...

1) Huge expansion pack download could cause instability problems

2) While Xbox Live is very popular, not every one has it...This means potentially less profit for Bethesda

3) This game will take up a lot of harddrive space...not everyone has the space available because of tons of game saves, Live demos, etc.

Bethesda is making a mistake with only having this game as a 360 Live download...

It won't sell terribly well on the 360, a retail release would only waste money.

EXPANSION, it would have to install on the HDD from the store anyways. How would you access the rest of the game?

I just wish Bethesda would concentrate on fixing the problems with the original instead of releasing new content.

Have they told the size of the expansion? 1gig-2 maybe or smaller!

btw, ya it sucks for people who don't have live.

How else are they going to add expansion pack content to the 360?
It wouldn't work on a separate disk - I guess that they could make it Oblivion: Part Two - The Shivering Isles (ala Ultima VII: Part Two - The Serpent Isle), but then it wouldn't add to the original's gameworld in any way.

10-11 gigs! yeah right! that's almost the entire 14 gigs harddrive space that the 360 has. No **** way!

Yes...I think around 50-60% do, but what about those 40-50% that don't?

Bethesda could sell it at retail, but players would require a hard drive, because the thing would just dump the content onto it, then make you insert the original game to play, sort of like the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack.

Maybe they will sell the expansion at Burger King.  You will probably have to buy a Whopper value meal to get the expansion disk.  Hail to the King!!!!

Then they won't get it, unless they release it on a disk that installs its contents straight to their HDs (which is always possible, I guess).

But really, why complain? This must be one of the first times in gaming history where an expansion pack has gone multiplat. You're lucky that you're getting this at all.

There is a rumor that it is 1.5 gigs and will cost $30

I could care less, but Bethesda will make a retail version, too. They're going to get complaints.

It would also be near stupid to release it to those without Live. Just think of what would happen if the game was boxed up and a crucial game stopping or an error in installation for all the CD's occured. A massive recall of a frickin game would ensue.

Digital distribution is the better choice for the 10% of current oblivion owners who will buy this.

And as said before, the contents will be copied to the HD regardless of how you got the game. You'll use the original Oblivion disk and piggy-back off of the HD for new content.

It only makes sense to do a retail version of this. Like said not everyone will have live or the means of connecting their system online due to lack of broadband connections. So if you have to install it on the harddrive, fine but allow for it be uninstalled and reinstalled at later times to free up space when needed. Having a hard copy is the only way to allow this.

Well, it's obvious from Bethesda's past track with Morrowind that Oblivion will eventually have a GOTY special-collectors disc that will most likely include the expansion and all the microtransaction material from Xbox Live....but when?

I wonder what the probability of Shivering Isles on PS3 is? Well, I guess that Bethseda would want to at least find out how well the PS3 version of Obliv. sells. :P Personally, I prefer discs over direct-to-drive content, because I know that my disc will always be there for me to install from. What if there was a nuclear war, and there was no-way to re download an expansion for a videogame? :o

I appreciate that brilliant input of yours not backing up why my reasons "suck"

Care to elaborate?
