Where do you think the JRPGs will go in this generation?
Also, will JRPGs still be coming out on the PS2? because i regard the PS2 very much alive and will be for quite some time to come.

Im sure PS2 will still get some JRPGs, but none of the "big hitters" anymore most likely. Probably some obscure stuff that may not even release outside Japan Currently 360 has more schedualed JRPGs releasing for it then PS3 (by a good margin). However, it's too early to predict an entire console lifespan and how these trends will change

Not only but they buy 10 times as many.

Most JRPGs don't even get released outside of Japan.

Logically, most rpg franchises that we're on ps2 should go to ps3, so it will probably be the ps3. That being said, the loss of DQ to the DS could be a sign of things to come if Sony continues to have a hard time moving units. If that does happen , it's anyone's game. The 360 has a great lineup so far, and the Wii would be a great candidate for many RPG franchises. So I'll say 360 unless Sony turns things around.

Yes a few big titles do well in the West but 95% flop or don't even get released.

I'm not saying the 360 will get no JRPGs just that it will get the least, as it is clearly the console with the least JRPG fans.

And that 95% don't get released on NA and EU usually cuz they're too weird or suck. We're talking about mainstream JRPG titles that always come to the west. Why would someone care about all the obscure, usually bad, JRPGs that never come to the US unless they were an overzealous importer?

Well I was only refering to numbers not quality.

I mean how are we supposed to predict where the good JRPGs will end up when we don't even know which the good ones will be?

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I'm not speaking for the TC, I'm speaking for myself. Why would a western gamer claim having tons of JRPGs of poor quality (so poor they never release outside Japan) on a console as an attribute? It does not affect them at all, nor should it be something to be terribly proud of.

I'm not sayin all the ones that make it to the west are good (god knows they're not), but it's a pretty safe bet that 99% of the ones that don't even make it to the west , there's usually a good reason for it (not culturally friendly over here, or just god-awful quality)

No one was expressing pride or preference they were just stating an opinion about which they felt would have the greatest numbers.

Well greatest numbers, then, even if 95% of it will potentially be garbage, will be Wii or PS3, as those are "safe bet" systems for small Japanese devs who make 95% of the shovel-ware garbage JRPGs that don't hit the US

Maybe it's because outside of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts almost all JRPGs bomb in the West when compared to Japan even the good ones.

I personally think that whichever system sells the most in Japan will get the most attention from JRPG developers. Also, i'm more interested in titles that will hit this side of the world. I know Japanese, but i'm not good enough to read the all the kanjis.

But Japanese devs have shown a desire lately to make their games for a more global market. I would also agree with that statement, but that was the trend for last gen. I don't see it going the same way this gen.

Have you played it , bud? Yes, the main character is still very metro, but the combat system and Star Wars/LOTR influenced story is very noticeable.
