There are much better shooters out there than Haze, so leave this for just a rental at best.

Haze... Definitely not the best first person shooter around, and maybe you should dismiss it entirely.
While Haze comes up with an interesting concept, it can't make the majority of things fun or engaging, so it falls flat.
Really, this may sound completely stupid and you will think bad of me because of it but... I really didn't mind the story that much. Sure it's all been done before but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
It's really just the way everything is delivered that's a fail. Even so, I didn't hate it the way most people did.
You play as some guy called Shane who works for the Mantel Corporation... I haven't played it in a while so I can't remember some of it, forgive me if I miss anything. They are an elite force just "fighting the good fight." Or so you think.
I won't go into any details. While being a Mantel soldier you can use a drug called "Nectar" which makes you much more faster, more alert of your surroundings, and enemies are all bright and lit up, so they make for easier targets. You can over dose on this drug, so be careful not to take too much otherwise you will literally lose control and go beserk, shooting everything and anything, even your partners.
Not too long into the game and you start hanging out with the rebel group "The Promised Hand," who fight against Mantel, because they are actually an evil corporation, and the true purpose of Nectar is to blind you from the truth.
The gameplay changes a bit when you switch sides, which I liked. You have to use your wits more, since you are no longer using Nectar.
Setting traps becomes a main offense against the enemy which is cool.
The graphics aren't all that bad so there's nothing to complain about there. A real complaint is the terrible A.I. Oh man how can people stuff that up so BADLY. I literally ran up to an enemy and touched him, and he turned around and looked at me for ten seconds before I shot him.... Seriously, the bad guys will walk into walls, run at you while shooting at their own team and stand right in front of you. They are DUMB.
I didn't remember the sound to be bad but I really don't remember any of that. It was never annoying or anything.
The thing that makes Haze average is... well... it's just average. It isn't totally memorable, the gameplay feels average, everything just feels mediocre.
Just not polished enough to go against the other shooters on the market. This, along with its assortment of flaws, keep it from getting a high score.
Make no mistake, there are moments of fun in this game, but there's no reason to pick it over other sci-fi shooters like Killzone 2 and Resistance.
If you are still interested, then rent it.
