It has Potential but Missed

Before I start talking about the game and my review, I will not be reviewing this game based on Justin Roiland accusations that may or may not be true, thank you for reading this.

Squanch Games, the developers that may other similar games like "Trove Saves the Universe", created High on Life which has potential but sadly they missed and more preferred playing if you're bored and got nothing else to do. At the start of the game, you would be playing a somewhat DOOM inspired mini game which I definitely didn't mind at all for a couple minutes until you start choosing your character in which then leads you to the actual game itself. I'm pretty sure that the main feature of this game is definitely the graphics in which I can say that the game looks very pretty( I have a 3060 ti so the game may run differently for others that have a more lower end graphics card) with a very good frame rate which I definitely appreciate. The music in this game wasn't my type of music that I enjoy listening to so I didn't really enjoy the soundtrack of this game and I understand that everyone has a different taste in music. The one negative thing about this soundtrack is that it gets really repetitive when playing for long sessions. Talking about long sessions, here comes the negatives of this game, if you play this game for a really long session so I would say for more than an hour straight or hour and a half, the game gets so god damn boring, like jesus christ the main objectives is killing one boss and once you kill that boss then you move on and kill another boss that can be killed the same as the other bosses that you will be facing against and the bosses have such small differences in their attacks, that it feels that you're fighting the same boss, just in a different phase. It just gets so boring to the point that it is not even enjoyable playing this god damn game. Our main character has a sister, she would have VERY FEW LINES in the main story to the point that many players would forget that she exist as well that not many players would know that they can actually interact with her unless you're the player that would try to interact with everything even if some things may not look interactable. Kenny(We'll call it the pistol for easier reference), which is you're starting weapon when playing the game for the first time, is the most powerful weapon in the entire game except for one weapon which I find insane because usually you're first weapon is strong at the start but soon you would use other weapons since the starting weapon is not as powerful when progressing more into the game. When progressing more into the game, you would unlock 4 other weapons and there is only one weapon that is more powerful than the pistol which is crazy. Don't get me wrong, you will be needing to use the other weapons but mainly for puzzles or side missions but you would be using these weapons very little and mainly be using the pistol to kill enemies which I find it very unbalanced. You can SNIPE enemies using the pistol because the pistol has unlimited range and has no bullet drop so where ever you shoot, then that will be exactly where the bullet will go compared to the other 3 weapons that you unlock. The final weapon that you will be unlocking is Lezduit which is the strongest weapon in the entire game in which you unlock at the final mission. The biggest negative about this weapon is that since you unlock this weapon at the very end of the game, you can only use this weapon in the final mission only, once you complete the final mission, then that's it, you can't use the weapon anymore which I guess I understand why this weapon is only used for one mission only by how powerful the weapon is but it still sucks that this weapon is a one time use weapon. While I'm talking about the final mission, let's talk about the final boss which I find it as the most anti climatic boss ending that I have ever seen, I've played some bad games with some bad final bosses, but holy **** this is by far the worst final boss and ending that I have ever seen. Basically in a nutshell, the final boss says some words about the character's family but then shows Jack Black and Susan Sarandon which I found pretty funny and after that you fight him. At the end you shove a bomb up the bosses ass including Kenny because the remote didn't work so he manually detonated it, the final boss blows up and Kenny somehow survives and after that, the screen goes black and the credits are shown, simply put, what the **** was that ending. The story wasn't the best that I've played compared to other games like God of War Ragnarök but I mean it has a story I guess. You can control the amount of chatting that characters and enemies can say in the game but for me I kept everything on default settings which is "frequent" in which it's something that I regret because holy god they talk so god damn much to the point that I was really close to muting all of the characters because of how much they talk and simply how annoying they get when you're just trying to finish the game. This game has a lot of that "Rick and Morty" type of jokes which for me didn't find them funny at all but if you like those type of jokes then there's nothing wrong with that, just not my type of humor. Many of the jokes were really a hit and a miss since many of the jokes was fart jokes or just talks about cum, but there were very few jokes that I found funny, some of those jokes were so dumb that I found it funny just because my brain was already turned into mush, but there were a few jokes that I genuinely found funny like the Jack Black and the Susan Sarandon part and the intro of getting Lezduit but the rest of the jokes were a hit and a miss. Overall, if you're bored and got nothing else to do, then playing this game for a little bit is fine to play, but if you want an immersive story with great weapons, then this is not the right game you should be playing. I like where this game is trying to go with it, but sadly it missed its potential.
