A strong improvement over an already great game that soars to the top.

User Rating: 9 | inFamous 2 PS3

Pros:

  • Retains everything that made the first "inFAMOUS" game so great.
  • Polishes the issues that I had with the first game to make for a much smoother experience.
  • Combat still feels as good as ever, and in fact feels even stronger here.
  • Platforming and traversal are even better than in the previous game.
  • New Marais is a wonderful open world that feels even more fun to explore than Empire City.
  • Karma system and user-generated content encourage replayability.
  • Visual stunner for its time that still holds up today.
  • Maintains the dark, action-packed story of the first game.
  • Some interesting arcs among new and returning characters.

Cons:

  • The Karma system has some wonkiness to it, and the way it levels you feels awkward at points.

Consensus: "inFAMOUS 2" serves as a great improvement over a game that was already pretty damn fun to play. It's essentially a bigger, smoother, and better version of the first "inFAMOUS" game, and quite frankly, what more could you ask for? Sucker Punch knew that the first game laid a very strong framework already, and used this as an opportunity to polish, polish, polish. This results in a journey that is really awesome, standing tall among a vast library of fantastic PlayStation 3 games. It may not be at that elusive 10/10 mark for me, but don't let that deter you from trying out "inFAMOUS 2." It's an amazing game that shows just how talented of a developer Sucker Punch is.
