Knacking for A Better Day

User Rating: 3 | Knack PS4

I work as a technician and as a technician you tend to notice the quality of other technicians work. Were the cables wired and managed properly, the equipment set level, cuts made precise or sloppy. Things like that. I bet game developers could do the same thing with games. Notice the quality in the programming and the depth of the graphics. Well. Guess what? So can gamers.

My boy Knack is out for the PS4 and within five minutes of playing it you'll wonder what the hell it's even doing as a launch title and not some five dollar indie game download. Originally the first game footage of the ps4 back at the announcement, I don't think Knack ever sparked any excitement. It looked simple, uninspired and graphically last-generation.

Finally playing the beast didn't let anybody down. I guess that's the good thing. It's not like anyone had high expectations for Knack. Playing knack is like playing a game geared at the special needs community. It's more linear than a bob sled race, the gameplay is so bereft of anything entertaining that it makes watching your grandma read the Sunday morning paper seem enjoyable, the graphics could have been achieved on my dad's micro computer from 95' and the controls and animations feel unfinished, unpolished and just without an extra love and care.

Knack is game you might find charity's giving the homeless and the homeless after getting a go saying, "are you serious? I mean I know we don't have any money but we're not idiots" then throwing the game back at the men and women running the shelter.

The mind behind this game was the mind behind the PS4. It's clear he knows about hardware but his game design and ideas are mediocre at best. I wouldn't mind him giving another shot at game design though. I like the art style of Knack and cartoonish nature. But if the next Knack is even anything remotely like this Knack, I'd say its time to knack a mole.
