An amazing experience after all this time. I still get a kick out of it.

User Rating: 9.1 | Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver PS
You know my play by play review style? Well, I break games down into parts and then look at the whole at the end. Legacy of Kain is one of the top games for the PSX ever. Gameplay: I wasn't a big fan of the 3D adventure genre until I got this. Sure, there is a sparsity of enemies, but they make up for it by being tough to kill. You can bash them all you want, but you have to kill them vampire style. Sunlight, water or impalement are the way to go. Thankfully you can survive these obstacles yourself despite being an undead vampire yourself. A nine, simply because there is some repetitiveness or avoidability in a lot of the combat, and the puzzles are occasionally longwinded or worse, counterintuitive. Graphics: Stunning. Almost on a par with FF8. No mean feat when there is no prerendering or load screens to speak of. Truly gobsmacking. Ten out of ten. Sound: World's best voiceacting on PS1? If not, it could only lose to MGS1. Plenty of PS2 games could learn from the voiceacting here. Truly stylish and believable. SFX and music hit the right tones, although some complaints could be had with puzzle and fledgling death cry sounds. Still a ten in my book. Value: A pity it's a little short, and won't have much to unlock in replays. Still the first play is amazing, and it's worth coming back to it occasionally. Eight. Tilt: You should play this game. Period. It is awesome, and you'll need it to get the ideas for future games on PS2. Which I am now seeking actively. Nine, cause this is a 9/10 game.
