I never would have thought that the first great Harry Potter game would be a Lego one. But fear not - It's awesome.

User Rating: 8.5 | LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 PC
After several really bad licensed Harry Potter games, at last, the time of a great one has come. Even on paper it sounds great - marrying all the fun of Lego games with Harry Potter. In reality, it's better.

Well, it's Lego, what did you expect? Beyond that, it looks really pretty and captures the greatness of the movies and the best of the previous Harry Potter games (the bad ones, that is). The environments look like they've been pulled straight out of the movies. The visual effects of spells are good too. Some washed out textures, but it's not that they tear the experience apart.

Sound: 8/10
Oh, the Harry Potter theme. You'll hear it a million times before all of this is over. Most of the music comes from the first Harry Potter movie, although there are some tunes from 2-4 movies too. They're just rarely used. No voice acting, that's for sure, same old moaning and groaning of Lego games. The sound effects are nice too. Besides the repetitiveness it's good.

Gameplay: 8/10
Oh, the endless fun! Building, breaking, collecting. Some weak combat. Puzzles. Lots of puzzles. They're mostly made for children but I found them enjoying as well. The usual Lego formula with two hubs and lots of stuff to collect. The only thing to hate here is just unbearably dumb AI. It's just stupid. There were certain situations where I tried to play with two controllers at once just because I didn't have a person to play with.

Presentation: 8/10
If you play this game for the story and you've never read the novels or seen the movies, I feel sorry for you, because it would just be hard for you to follow. For those who are fans - Welcome! The main story events are quite funny - typical Lego humor. All the menus and loading screens are simple and not too ambitious.

Replay value: 10/10
It's necessary to replay the game to collect all the fun stuff - characters, bonus content, cheats etc. For those who really invest more time, you can get to play as Voldemort in a bonus level.

It's just plain fun.
