The Last Great Mario Party, Mario Party 7 takes the proven track record and solidifies it. There is nothing starkly different from 5, 6, and 7 but Mario Party 7 has fun mini games, unique maps, good characters, and a suitable story mode. Sadly Mario Party 8 was a step down and Mario Party 9 & 10 border on terrible. Mario Party 7, along with its earlier peers is what Mario Party should be.
