Cap and Iron Man want you, but who will you side with?

The First Marvel Ultimate Alliance brought back us the memories of the X-Men Legends franchise which was a great hit on the previous gen consoles. With Marvel Ultimate Alliance proving to be a somewhat 'worth playing' first attempt into the next gen consoles, MUA 2 has arrived and has gone to introduce an in depth storyline which all Marvel fans will be familiar with and some new characters which will intrigue gamers but fans of the previous game may be disappointed to find out that previous heroes won't be playable on this title.

To start with, the story for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is heavily based on the Civil War comic which most Marvel ans will instantly recognize and know about. Non Marvel fans/not that too geeky may not be familiar with the storyline, but will instantly drawn into the story and whether they will join sides with Captain America or Iron Man!?

Initially what kicks this whole 'war' off is pretty generic, an attack has occurred on planet earth and the people as well as the government blame the heroes for the destruction caused, a registration act is then put in place to force superheroes to sign up to the government or become part of the rebels and not sign up.

If you decide to go in this single handily, you won't have the same joy as people who will play in groups of 4 or heck even 2, as a single player you will be able to choose your team and switch between heroes at anytime etc. but the sole purpose of this game is to be played as a unit whether that will be online or have 3 or 4 chums round for a good ol' beat 'em up!

Along the way, you will have a chance to unlock some new heroes that you can add to your team, such heroes include Hulk, Daredevil, Venom and a whole bunch more!

The defining moment of the game is when the time has come for your team to make a choice, either sign up with Iron Man and the government or rebel against the government and side with Captain America, ofcourse, if you choose to side with Iron Man you won't be able to select Captain America in your team and a host of other other characters and ofcourse vise versa.

One of the most attractive features of the game is the new 'fusion' attack, once your team builds up a big ol chunk of attacks on the bad guys, you will then have enough power to unleash a massive attack with two characters, so you can have Spidey web-sling Wolverine into a batch of bad guys or have Storm create a tornado to capture enemies in it and then Deadpool decides to throw in some grenades for a bit of spice and variety, all quite intense stuff to say the least.

However, one of the main problems with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and other similar games is that it DOES become REPETITIVE, you will always start a mission and battle through enemy upon enemy, unleash a fusion attack and then finally battle the boss, have a de-brief, a chat with whoever and the next mission. Slightly annoying in my books.

There's no denying that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 has added more such as characters like Deadpool (which is a hugely hilarious and wonderful addition), fusion attacks, new alternate costumes etc. I 'spose why I have given this an 8 is because it is my first dance at Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and gamers before hand will either be slightly disappointed/pleased with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. In closing, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is a great opportunity for new gamers to get involved by don't expect anything spectacular from this title.
