One of those stars that shine in amongst all those other over-rated ones.

User Rating: 9.5 | Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne PC
Quite a few years from the aftermath of the first game, Max Payne 2 throws you into a whole new gritty story. The games style is what it would be like if say John Woo had a take on Sin City or other noir titles, giving it that extra little ounce of gunplay and realism. Max's story from the beginning is unclear... starts where it finishes, and you go back and play out the entire mess he got himself into. This time Max falls into the hands of many familiar adversaries and allies, one being the Femme Fatale Mona Sax who you also play as in parts of this.

The Bullet time mechanic has been majorly improved on, not to mention the fact that there are ragdoll physics that improve the reality of the kill. A vast majority of weapons all have their advantages, from stubby shotguns to duel wield dessert eagles, there is alot of attention to detail towards the weapons and even the bullets.

Max Payne 2 really shon for me, an excellent example that developers can make a superb storyline with engaging gameplay to match, and is also so simple to pick up and play. So i'll point out its good and bad points!

The Good -

- Well told story, presented in narration and cutscenes in graphic novel style
- Huge arsenal of weapons
- Bullet time looks much better than before
- Ragdoll human physics and objects.

The Bad -

- Repetative
- Sometimes weak musical score
- Mona's missions dont always seem relevant, just playing the same mission from someone else's point of view, but basically doing the same thing.

Overall there is nothing wrong with this game. Every game gets repetative after a while as there is ALWAYS a limit to things you can do. Max Payne 2 though is a game that shouldn't be missed, people consider games such as Halo and Call Of Duty as the best shooters around, yet they sometimes lack what is needed most... atmosphere, and Max Payne's gritty world truely consumes you the only thing lighting your way are the bullets you'd have pumped into the mass body count behind you!
