Occasionally frustrating, but totally worth it

You have to watch a 15-minute video on Youtube before you start, or risk plodding through the entire game without having learned the basics, because the game does such a great job of explaining them. The camera can be occasionally frustrating. The stun mechanic is broken because jerking the left stick does nothing, allowing enemies to stun lock you, which is annoying in a couple of boss fights. The parry mechanic, while not broken, is unpolished: while you do get a visual attack warning, it often comes a few seconds before the actual attack, and sometimes not at all, which begs the question of why it even exists, and the parry itself may not work if you do not get the direction just right, which is not always easy with the way the camera works. The cutting line in blade mode is barely visible, making precision cuts difficult. The cutscenes are too protracted. Other than the above, this is one of the best slasher games ever made. The choreography, visuals and camera work are on a level that only the Japanese seem capable of achieving, the combat system is deep, yet not overcomplicated, the enemies and bosses are challenging without becoming frustrating, the story (unusually, for a Japanese game) is easy to follow, the dialogue and voice acting are great, and the game on the whole is simply a lot of fun. If you like the slasher genre, you simply can't let it pass you by.
