A different take on survival horror, and it's not bad.

User Rating: 8 | Metro: Last Light PS3

To be honest this is the first I have ever seen or heard anything about this series, apparently their is a game that even takes place before It called Metro 2033, the only honest reason I played this game was because it was on PS Plus for free, and I had a lot of fun with it, but I have to admit I don't know a whole lot of stuff when it comes to this series so if I say something wrong about this game take it with a grain of salt.

Story: I have to be honest I'm not going to even touch upon the story it's so complex that even during some points of the game I was lost, in fact I even heard this game was made from a book, so if you want to hear about the story In more depth I would recommend reading the book because you won't have a clue what is going on in this game. The story is actually not bad though, it kept me entertained, but I just didn't know enough about it for me to actually understand it though.

Presentation: Another apocalyptic world oh boy like that hasn't been done to death huh? however it's actually stands out as pretty cool in this game, every area looks different but yet the same, in the way that every single place looks exactly like everything else, the way it should be but a lot of the areas have a lot of a clear distinction to them, which is good, because a lot of developers get lazy when it come to the aspect of making a apocalyptic world. The visuals in this game are top notch, their is no question that this is one of the best looking games on the ps3. Their isn't much of a soundtrack for this game, but when music does play it plays a dark somber tone to make the player face the honest reality of what has happened in this apocalyptic world.

Gameplay: Metro Last Light is a survival Horror game, that actually brings weight to the name, their is scarce ammo, scary atmosphere, and even other scarce items you need to survive, like filters, to be able to breathe on the surface. Most of the gameplay is telling the ranger about what the Reich are going to do to people with the d6 virus, the main aspect is getting back to them while surviving underground against people or up above against monsters, you have to be very careful during your journey because you are limited on ammo, and not only that but air too when you are up on land, you have to continue to collect filters every single time you go up, it makes you feel like you should in a survival horror game always in more need of supply's the only thing I have to say that is not that great about this game, is the horror itself, their were not a whole lot of parts in this game that I was actually scared, most of the creatures are not that scary, and their really is just no build up to it which makes Metro not very horrifying, but I will admit that it does sometimes have its moments though. their is not a whole lot of depth when it comes to Metros gameplay it's your usual Survival Horror game that is heavily based on it's story, and I think that makes Metro great in it's own regards, however I think it's definitely not a game for everyone.

(Spoiler Alert) The final part of the game is an all out war between the Rangers and the Reich it's pretty cool after they drive an armored train into the rangers defenses, it seems like all is lost for the Rangers until Artyom destroys all of them with the D6 self destruct mechanism that destroys both the Rangers and the Reich, This leads to a cutscene of the women who Artyom consummated with, who had their child, saying that he was a hero and saved humanity, it's a pretty good ending.

Overall I would probably recommend playing the first one before playing this game or reading the book because while I did enjoy playing this game, I was lost Story wise for most of the game cause I didn't know what was going on. Other then that though, it's actually an enjoyable survival Horror game that stays true to the name and is fun to play.
