The Beginnings of Noob-Saibot.

User Rating: 9.5 | Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero PS
MK has always been a story-oriented series. John Tobias wished to expand upon that story. This led to the conception of the series' first adventure game, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero.

Mythologies takes place before MK1 telling the story of the original Sub-Zero. The sorcerer Quan Chi has hired Sub-Zero to find an ancient amulet for him. Little does the Lin Kuei warrior know, he's helping the destruction of Earthrealm!

You only play as Sub-Zero in this game. No one else. It's an adventure game with RPG elements people!

The graphics for Mythologies make it unique. The characters are digitized 2D, while the backgrounds are 3D. The PS1 version also has Full-Motion Video cutscenes, making the experience much more enjoyable.

Controls are the same as MK fighters, even though this is an adventure game. Some changes were made such as a button to turn around and a button to pick up items. Jumping can be a bit tricky in Mythologies. That and the change direction button may get annoying at times. Otherwise everything else checks out.

The sound in Mythologies really adds ambience to the whole biblical sense of the game.

There are some RPG elements to Mythologies as previously stated. Through defeating enemies, you can earn experience which will unlock new special moves to use. Some of these include the iceball and Sub-Zeros slide attack.

For a first try at an adventure game, MKM: Sub-Zero is an excellent try! I really wished that Midway kept this format and made Mythologies its own series.
