Looks great, but doesn't play well.

Unlike the first Ultimate Ninja Storm title which had the whole story presented in a few short text boxes, Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 actually does include most of the dialogues, scenes and the important moments. Sadly, in between all of the good stuff, you will be forced to spend time moving from point A to point B, walking through empty areas such as forests or meadows, with nothing else to do except for gathering materials such as flowers or other stuff left by birds or rabbits. Between each of those empty and strangely linear paths, you will also be greeted with a lovely loading screen. This is what you will be doing most of time when you play, and to reach your destination you will have to go across about 20 different areas, all of which have absolutely nothing to do in them.

The battles look great, but they lack depth so they get boring quickly unless you keep changing characters frequently. Thankfully there are many characters to play with, but all of them have only 2 special attacks, which means no matter how much you try to mix things up, it will always seems like you are spamming the exact same moves over and over again. All of the combos consists of only mashing a single button, and the special stuff is only 2 or 3 buttons long. Since the fighting isn't based on complex inputs, one would assume its based on strategy and imaginative use of the tools available to you, sadly since both of the fighters only have exactly 2 tricks up their sleeve, it's hard to be unpredictable. Thankfully by using your two support characters it is possible to spice things up at least a little bit.

Unlike the anime, the battle music does little to hype you up for the coming moments, and is more suited for those flower picking segments instead, on top of that the music cannot be turned off in the options and the game does not support custom soundtracks. The online battles suffer from large amounts of lag, even if you search games by connectivity and get lucky to find anything, your results will be that of poor quality.

If you don't already own a Naruto game and are a big fan, then this isn't a bad choice for a few casual couch matches, just don't take it seriously because for a fighting game it's shallow as it can be.
