One of the best racing games I played in a long time.

Ever since I could remember playing Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 as a kid. It felt like hours and hours of my gaming life were spent playing it with my dad, the idea of playing as a racer and a cop, it was just fun and tense. The later NFS games on the PS2 like Most Wanted and Underground were great, but they never captured the fun of Hot Pursuit 2. Now fast forward to the near end of 2010 and what kind of NFS game we get? The one that takes it back to its roots and overall, its just awesome.

Graphics: Gorgeous just gorgeous. Every car in the game looks amazing with great detail and the scenery when racing or chasing in events looks beautiful. The effects themselves like driving across sand, racing in a rainy environment look great as well. The only real complaint I have is that the framerate drops when a huge amount of vehicles collide against each other for extended periods of time but aside from that, Presentation is top notch.

Sound: The music selection in HP is pretty darn good although its quite annoying when you have to keep changing the song to the one you want (even more odd that you can't cancel certain songs). The majority of the vehicles sound fierce when racing/chasing at high speeds. And other effects such as crashing, slamming sound realistic. Sound presentation is fantastic as well.

Gameplay: First off, best controls I've ever felt for a racing title. Whether you're drifting or driving at high speeds, it feels smooth and best of all, its not realistic. The only 3 complaints I have is that you unlock cars WAY to fast and certain attacks like the EMP or Jammer are overused to often in some events (especially in multiplayer), it could've helped if there was a mode where we were to rely on pure skill and not with a uber amount of spike strips being overused at times. I also have to ask, no offline multiplayer? Why? But you might ask "Why is HP fun then"? Its simple, the two sides you can play as, racer or cop. If you play as a racer, you have your standard racing with no cops, Hot Pursuit where you have a mob of police after you while trying to reach 1st, time trials where you have to be careful not to screw up big time, Duel when its you against one racer, and Gauntlet which is time trial but with cops on your tail. Playing as a racer is tense because you could lose a race because of helicopters trying to take you down and evading the many hazards thrown at you, you need to rely on being quick to make it to 1st. When it comes to your cops, you have Hot Pursuit which you have to take down racers by damaging their car till it loses it health, Rapid Response is like time trial say that you're given much more time than a racer but hitting traffic or the walls will decrease your time limit, and Interceptor where you have to bust a very fast racer. The cop is tense like the racer since you have to damage a group of racers trying to reach the finish line and it relies a lot on being offensive against the racers to win. Even if you don't bust all the targets or win a race, you can still get bounty which just like CODs system, as you progress, you unlock new cars and gain a new level. You gain bounty by winning events, online matches, or being reckless and dangerous. Both sides also have two different weapons; the cops can dispatch helicoptors to lay spike strips in front of the racers and can set up road blocks; racers have a huge turbo boost and have jammers which disable EMPs, spike strips, radars except yours and reveal road blocks for a small amount of time. Both sides also have EMPs, spike strips, and a small nitro boost. Both sides are well balanced basically.

Multiplayer: Haven't played much of it though its almost the same thing as the campaign but with a facebook feature to get friends fast.

Overall, Hot Pursuit 2010 is a fantastic game and if you have the money. Buy it now.
