Rushing Headlong into Oblivion

User Rating: 4 | ONRUSH XONE

OnRush is a game that will be forgotten within 10 years, if it hasn't been already. There will be no sequels, there will be no leagues, there will be no appearances at major events. There was never any hype as the game was quietly released to the world, and for good reason: the car combat genre is dead and OnRush is the final nail in the coffin.

Touted as OverWatch with cars, OnRush pits two teams against one another in various game types across various tracks. Simple, if not for the terrible level design that you must navigate with even worse physics. Stiff controlling bikes, buggies, and trucks somehow fail to even have brakes or any sense of durability as opponents wreck into you without any thought to you getting revenge. This applies to both the single and multiplayer aspects of the game with the multiplayer feeling completely unbalanced in most matches. You can lay on your turbo for as long as you can and you will seemingly never catch up to the opponents to sideswipe them or push them into obstacles.

One major problem being that the tracks are heavily littered with obstacles, walls, rock outcrops, trains, pillars, dips, jumps, cliffs, and dozens of other details that are meant for you to crash in to. Some game types only afford you so many respawns before your team loses. Well, good luck.

In spite of my negativity, it is a solid game, and when you can find the rhythm of the game and can get in-tune enough to become good at it: go forth brave soldier. The overall presentation is unique, the artwork and style is outlandish, and the speed is great. But if you can't even play the game because of bad physics and level design, then why bother?
